Culturally Speakin's Pedal Against Hate Bike Ride, Lawrence, Kansas, May 1, 2010

A partnership of Lawrence social organizations hosted the inaugural Pedal Against Hate Community Bike Ride on May 1, starting at the Islamic Center of Lawrence, 1917 Naismith Drive.

The event combined an anti-hate message with a bike ride through Lawrence. Bicyclists rode to South Park where Ed Chasteen, a retired professor of sociology from William Jewell College, talked about his experience of biking from Disney World to Disneyland, and about how the journey taught him to “like other people.”

The event was hosted by The Lawrence Alliance, The Islamic Center of Lawrence, the Interfaith Initiative, and Culturally Speaking, an organization that works to facilitate positive interactions among people of different faiths and cultures.

Very sweet agenda outlined. Certainly, we need more of this in all communities, and Kansas City is a great starting point. We are a microcosm of the world-wide problem of misunderstanding and judgment of others. There is reason and intelligence in creation. We just have to observe, listen and act on our higher values. These higher values we can learn from good parenting, good counsel, Scriptures, history and a multitude of examples that God puts in front of us everyday. God is one throughout creation. Here is a test: Take a minute and take a walk quietly away from the madness of daily life. Reveal your heart and mind to God, i.e. Talk to God in your way-get it all out. Then at the end of your seemingly one-way conversation ask God to let you know you have been heard – ask for a blessing. I guarantee within the next 24 hours you will have a sign, a moment, when you will know you are heard. However, then you will know that you are always heard and answered. Everyone is heard by that one God regardless of color, birth, location, disability, etc. We are always connected to our creator. ….. Love to all…..
